Line B metro stations in Rennes

The second subway line in Rennes serves the historical center, the university, the northern neighborhoods and the main urban projects of the city.
The redevelopments of the station’s surroundings are opportunities to rethink public spaces, enable by the new travel plan, but especially to set up territorial and urban projects at the neighborhoods scale.
Based on those operational sketches, the projects of 18 stations are direct operations while the others are outsourced.

On the territorial scale a huge promenade that put through the subway station, the neighborhood with the Vilaine and the Stade Rennais.
At a crossroads the subway is think as new centrality for the neighborhood to welcome shops, housings and a market.

This promenade is the outcome of a new square around the subway, the church, its cloister and its garden.

A large garden-square

The historical center of Rennes is the subject, at the occasion of the arrival of the subway line b, of the redevelopment of a certain number of squares associated with it. The Saint-Germain square registers in this mechanism. From those fragmentary actions the whole squares will be redesigned and networking to constitute a system of squares and garden-streets.

The medieval square restitutes the space of the church and le the subway square the one of the superimposed urban fabric. The whole rest on the unitary soil of the Vilaine’s plain from the city hall square until the Saint-Georges palace. These dispositions are made possible by the extension of the pedestrian plateau.

The design of the Jules Ferry station surroundings has been extended to create a large promenade linking the high school, the law faculty and the parc des Prairies Saint-Martin. Around the station, these disposals reorganized the urban fabric with new housings and the reconversion of the Archives building.

The subway station Gros Chêne allows to rethink the East-West framework between the street de Fougère and the Ille’s valley while redirecting the neighborhood and the commercial poles towards the station and this framework.

A Cardo / Decumanus around the subway

The meeting of two urban morphologies, city-parc and allotments, allows to define the boulevard de Vitré’s character and its treatment.
To the main public devices and the subway station are joined a series of forecourts.
Public spaces are no longer thought in an archetypal way nor independents but made of the assembly of spanned urban fabrics whose uses define their nature.
