Marcel Proust Garden of Pré Catelan in Illiers-Combray

The Pré Catelan's garden expresses its inscription in a geography, between agricultural plateau, wooden hillside and valley. Territory, memory, that of Jules Amiot, Marcel Proust's uncle, and the literature of this latter, inspired the project designed here.

The combined expression of geography, iconography and literature

Each part of the garden, each kind of vegetation, each topographic expression, each architectural piece, each waterstate address this geography.

The Serpentine's artificial river is the neck bone of the valley. Constructions and spatial arrangements are designed around its meanders.

Each part of the garden can be identified by a single architectural element, chosen regarding Jules Amiot's numerous trips and voyages. The koubba element depicts his kindness towards Algeria, where he spent a great part of his life.

The wooden hillside is organized around the flourished alley.

The garden composition leads to the discovery of pieces and spaces amongst the promenade, such as the Archers pavilion.

Horsetails herbs basin is an icon of the shelf entity.

passait ;"... Marcel Proust, Sur la Lecture - 1905
